New Delhi: A significant number of people in India and globally want to get vaccinated for Covid-19, according to a new survey.
The World Economic Forum-Ipsos survey of nearly 20,000 adults from 27 countries, unveiled on Monday, showed that 87% urban Indians and 74% global citizens are keen to receive the vaccine shot when it is available.

According to the survey, among the markets most eager to get the vaccine, the top ones are China (97%), Brazil (88%), Australia (88%), India (87%), Malaysia (85%) and Great Britain (85%).

Countries like Russia, Poland, Hungary and France are split in their views.

“Vaccine is the only way to protect from the resilient SARS CoV-2 – and because of the high communicability of the contagion and with no sure shot cure in sight, the Covid-19 vaccine, to safeguard from the virus is definitely awaited by the majority of Indians. The vaccine will herald some bit of normalcy," said Amit Adarkar, CEO of Ipsos India.

At least 3 in 4 urban Indians (74%) are hopeful of a Covid-19 vaccine by year-end, after China (87%) and Saudi Arabia (75%). However, in most markets globally citizens do not expect the vaccine to be available by the end of the year.

The markets that were most pessimistic included Poland (22%), Japan (22%) and Belgium (23%).

Out of the total number of people surveyed, nearly 5,000 adults do not intend to take a vaccine for Covid-19, due to apprehensions about its side effects.
