Huawei India CEO says Europe isn't able to balance data protection and data usage

Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei's India chief executive Jay Chen said that Europe is not able to balance data protection and data usage, and all other countries must learn a lesson from the situation.
"On data use and data protection, I would say, why OTT is more developed in the US, China, Korea, and Japan and India as well, and not so developed in Europe. The reason is in the past couple of years, Europe is not able to balance data protection and usage. This is the lesson we should take," Chen said during a panel at the ongoing India Mobile Congress 2019.

The executive said that 5G isn't going to be driven by individuals, but enterprises and cross verticals such as manufacturing and healthcare.

"...if we think about 5G for enterprise and cross-industries, there is a totally different world...after 5G launch, much more data will be generated by the cross-industry," Chen said.

Nokia India head Sanjay Malik, who also participated in the panel, said that India needs to find the best 5G use cases with societal value. "A lot of use cases are being developed by local entrepreneurs," he said, adding that some new use cases are already being .eveloped using 4G technology such as medical consultation.

Huawei's Chen said that India has a unique strength due to its population, which is using data services. "We are not just focused on 5G, but beyond 5G and Artificial Intelligence."
