Hari Marar, MD, BIAL, said the second runway will be operational by October, while the new terminal will be ready in 2021. “Designed as a reflection of this city, terminal 2 has been founded on four pillars,” he said.
The theme of the terminal is centred around Bengaluru’s technological leadership, Karnataka’s rich heritage and culture, environmental stewardship and sustainability. “Over the last 10 years, Bengaluru airport has evolved as the gateway to south India and with this next phase of expansion, the aim is to position our airport as the gateway to a new India,” Marar said.
Bhaskar Anand Rao, chief financial officer, BIAL, said the project will be a boost to the economy. “Phase 2 of Kempegowda International Airport will provide a huge boost to the connectivity of people and goods of the state and provide the much-needed capacity”.
