Indian Railways transports 2600 wagons of essentials in last 2 weeks

NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways have transported around 2,600 wagons with essential commodities in the last two weeks to various parts of the country, the government said on Monday. “In the last 13 days, 1,340 wagons of sugar, 958 wagons of salt, 316 wagons of edible oil have been transported to various parts of the country,” Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry said in a briefing on Covid-19 on Monday.

The railway ministry also in a recent statement said that the national transporter has been making all efforts to ensure that there is no shortage of sugar, salt and edible oil. “The loading, transportation and unloading of these essential commodities has been in progress in full swing during this period,” the railway ministry said.

In another statement Monday, the railway ministry said that on an average, 375 coaches are being converted into isolation units each day and the work is being carried out at 133 locations.
