NEW DELHI: Over the next three years, 10 lakh youths will be trained in engineering skills in AICTE-approved engineering colleges and polytechnics. on Jan 11, 2016)The HRD ministry has notified the broad contours of its new initiative under Pradhan Mantri Kaushalya Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) that aims to encourage the institutions for making the best use of available infrastructure of higher education system during ‘off hours’ for skill training.
This is to provide employable and certifiable skills based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) with necessary soft skills to school dropouts who want to pursue higher order skills and living in the vicinity of college.
The ministry will take care of the cost of trainers, recurring cost of maintaining the facilities, cost of placement and post placement costs as per prescribed norms. A web-based management information online system (MIS) will be developed for monitoring student enrolment records, trainers’ profile, monthly attendance records, dropouts and reasons, assessment reports for monthly tests and re-enrolment of students.
In 2015-16, 500 colleges will train 25 students from each college, which in 2016-17 will be expanded to 1,000 colleges with each having 100 students. In 2017-18, 2000 colleges will train 100 students each. In 2018-19, 5000 colleges will train 100 students each. At the end of the programme 10.12 lakh youths will be trained.
