Payroll data: Over 23 lakh formal jobs created in November

Ministry of statistics and programme implementation, on Friday, said, 23, 47,649 people were added to the country’s formal workforce in November under three social security scheme of the government.

While 8,67,963 people were added in the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, 14,33,000 people were added under the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme and 46,686 were added under the National Pension Scheme, it said in the payroll data released for November.

“The present report gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector and does not measure employment at a holistic level,” it said.

Since April, 2018 this Ministry has been bringing out the employment related statistics in the formal sector covering the period September 2017 onwards, using information on the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major schemes, namely the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).

While EPF is applicable to establishments having more than 20 workers, ESI is applicable to establishments having more than 10 workers and NPS is applicable to any citizen of India, whether resident or non-resident, individuals who are aged between 18 – 60 years.
