Start them young seems to be the mantra that art connoisseur Gayatri Ruia seems to follow, where art education is concerned.
The director of Phoenix Mills is a well known art collector and patron, and museum visits have always been an important part of her life. Speaking with ET Panache, Ruia shared, that visits to European cities are incomplete without some museum hopping. “I think every city I visit, usually in Europe, especially, has museums and I revisit them time and time again,” she said.

In Mumbai, her go-to places are the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) and National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA). And she particularly enjoys visiting the CSMVS with her kids. “In Bombay, I really enjoy going to the NGMA and to the CSMVS, especially with my kids. The CSMVS has some world-class exhibits, things I’ve been seeing since I was a child and it’s always a pleasure to see them again,” Ruia said.

While she never misses out on a chance to see and experience art, contemporary art has been off her radar, at least purchase-wise. “I’ve not been buying too much contemporary art,” she revealed, when asked if there is any particular artist to watch out for.
