Bombay House under renovation, but stray dogs continue to get Tata Group love and pampering

The strays, which were a common sight at the Tata Group headquarters in South Mumbai, have moved along with the staff to the new location.
A couple of months ago, the senior brass of the Tata Group moved out of its iconic address, Bombay House, a heritage building in south Mumbai to a temporary office close to the original location. And wherever the human occupants go, the four-legged residents of the building follow.

Visitors to Bombay House have often encountered stray dogs in the reception area. A strange sight for those unfamiliar with the legend. Apparently, former Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata, an ardent dog lover, ordered that the strays be allowed to take shelter in the building on a rainy day. Since then, the dogs have become part of the family and are looked after by the building staff.

Once the renovation work of Bombay House is completed, it’s not just the employees who will return to the spanking new premises. Apparently a special something is being planned for the dogs, perhaps a room of their own.

In the meanwhile, the shift to the new location has not altered the dogs’ routine much according to present employees. They continue to be looked after as before, enjoying their daily meals that include glucose biscuits as well as the occasional elevator ride.
