Sometimes, being silly pays off. Going by that logic, not all games need to be accurate but should be fun. A great example of this is Cricket Through The Ages on Apple Arcade. Yes, it is a cricket-based game but it can also be described as anything but cricket. Sounds confusing? Well, Cricket Through The Ages is a crazy mad ride where there are no rules and is really fun to play.

Everything is random and the fundamentals of cricket apply to the game but in a loose sense. The pitch here is actually a battlefield and the players can be dressed in bizarre costumes. A different form of bowling is in play — you have to throw objects at the opponent.

The idea is simple: hit the opponent with the object you have in hand and you win. For instance, in the World War mode, you get grenades that you have to hurl at your opponent. In the English Premier League mode, you have to use your feet to kick objects.

Developed by Devolver Digital, it is a game that could’ve gone horribly wrong or become boring but there are so many fun elements in it that it keeps you going on for hours. Suddenly a spaceship or a bird will appear from nowhere, changing the course of action. You have to think on your feet at almost all times.

Just like in cricket, timing is the key in the game. Your opponents can be on a horse and you have to time your move to perfection to hit them.

You can have a single-player mode or two players can play it at a time. We liked the single-player mode more. The graphics are well done and the gameplay is action packed.

There are multiple modes in the game, like the Ashes World Cup, World War, Cricket Quantico and Court Badminton. Each mode brings its own set of unique challenges. But as we said earlier, it is all pretty random and fun to play.

The game itself is free, though that is not the reason you will find yourself coming back to it again and again. It is worth the `99 Apple Arcade subscription fee.

Cricket Through The Ages is one of the most entertaining games on Apple Arcade. It is fun to play on the iPhone but it really shines on the iPad’s big screen.
