Director Vishal Bhardwaj had a wonderful weekend when he found a fan in Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The film-maker took to social media to thank the tech giant and the top boss on Sunday for giving him an opportunity to direct a film using an iPhone.

Bhardwaj, who is known for his rich filmography with 'Haider' (2014), 'Maqbool' (2003), 'Omkara' (2006) and 'Kaminey: The Scoundrels' (2009), said he was "humbled" by Cook's 'overwhelming adulation'.

On Saturday, Cook praised Bhardwaj's recent short film 'Fursat', which was commissioned by Apple.

Introducing the film to his 14 million followers on Twitter, Cook lauded Bhardwaj's "incredible cinematography and choreography."

He wrote, "Check out this beautiful Bollywood film from director Vishal Bhardwaj that explores what might happen if you could see into the future. Incredible cinematography and choreography, and all shot on iPhone."

Helmed by Bhardwaj, 'Fursat' is a 30-minute-long film which was shot on an iPhone 14 Pro. It features 'Dhadak' star Ishaan Khattar and Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles.

With his aesthetic sensibility, the 57-year-old director has explored science fiction's favourite subject in 'Fursat' - time travel.

The short film was released on the iPhone-maker's official YouTube channel and has been receiving a positive response from the audience. Apple described the film as a magical story about a man so obsessed with controlling the future that he risks losing what he holds most precious in the present.

It is understood that Bhardwaj is the latest to join the brigade of directors across languages who have experimented with unique filming techniques with the help of advanced technology during the lockdown. Inspired by the creativity of the film-makers, known tech giants have been commissioning notable directors to shoot with smartphones, according to an ANI report.

Khattar was last seen in 'Phone Bhoot' alongside Katrina Kaif and Siddhant Chaturvedi. After proving his acting mettle in Majid Majidi's 'Beyond the Clouds', his next project is a period war film, 'Pippa', opposite actress Mrunal Thakur.

On the other hand, Gabbi shot to nationwide fame with the Disney Plus Hotstar series 'Grahan' and the Netflix series 'Mai: A Mother's Rage'.
