Cricket is a big part of Indian culture and also its economy. The BCCI was worth Rs 11,916 crore as per its 2017-8 balance sheet. It was opportune, therefore, that the new BCCI chief, Sourav Ganguly, would be present at the ET Awards for Corporate Excellence.
Requests for selfies began as soon as Ganguly arrived at the hotel. After a break to freshen up and change, he took his place amidst eminent guests from the business and political spheres, like Home Minister Amit Shah, his son and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Ganguly spoke little and listened a great deal. For someone who is canny and has bowled as well as batted for India, grasping the nuances of different worlds is unlikely to be a hurdle.
