Here's what to expect from Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 launch event

    Synopsis

The Galaxy Note 8 is widely-tipped to include a slew of new technology, including a much-improved S Pen.

    ET Online
Samsung on Wednesday will announce the next device in its Galaxy Note series of luxury mobile phones, which come with 'infinity' displays, a stylus pen and a powerful camera. Official teasers for the new device have shown a phone with a next-generation stylus, known as the S Pen, under the tag line 'do bigger things'.

The Galaxy Unpacked 2017 event will begin at 8.30pm IST (11am EDT in New York), and will be live streamed by Samsung for their global audience. You can watch the live stream on the company's website. You can even head to this link to watch the live stream, just in case the Indian websites face difficulties.

Samsung is expected to include Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM. The device will have a 6.3-inch device with a display that covers the whole front of the device, much like its predecessor and the Galaxy S8. The edge-to-edge display is known as an infinity display.

It remains unclear, when the device will go on sale, but it will probably be a few weeks after the launch. It is expected to come in four colours, blue, gold, black and silver, and be available in a larger 128GB version. Bixby, Samsung's new voice assistant, will also play a role on the Galaxy Note 8.

The new camera will reportedly outdo even the Galaxy S8, which features one of the best cameras on the market. It may allow for portrait-style shots that other phones, such as the iPhone 7 Plus, already offer. The dual cameras sometimes feature a black-and-white sensor, in addition to a colour sensor, for more accurate photos.

It is expected to pack 6GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, which will be further expandable via microSD card. It has also been reported recently that the 256GB storage variant might just be launched exclusively in South Korea and the 128GB storage variant might be launched elsewhere. The handset is expected to measure 162.5x74.6x8.5mm. Galaxy Note 8 has been tipped to house a 3300mAh battery that can be charged either wirelessly or through USB Type-C.

Samsung is putting in place not one, but three biometric security measures - face and iris scanning capabilities, as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The last Samsung Galaxy Note was one of the best-looking smartphones you could buy. But the device proved to be a failure after dozens of reports of batteries overheating led to a global recall of the high-end smartphone.

Gizmo experts tout, when Samsung debuted a limited edition 128GB version of the Galaxy S8 Plus back in June, the price tag jumped from $850 for the standard model - to almost $1100 (Rs 70,900). If there is a Galaxy Note 8 model that comes with 256GB of storage, don't expect a price tag below Rs 70,900. This might make it the most expensive smartphone Samsung has ever made.
