iQoo 3 review: A fine debut, packs powerful hardware & battery, good performance at the price point

    Synopsis

The highlight is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, which is currently the fastest Android chipset.

Like almost every other phone these days, the iQoo 3 also packs in a 48MP camera along with two 13MP lenses and a 2MP depth sensor.

    Key highlight: Fast processor

Brands creating their sub-brands has become quite the trend in the smartphone industry. Oppo did with Realme, Xiaomi did with Poco and now Vivo has joined the ranks with iQoo. The first iQoo phone is the iQoo 3, which packs a powerful hardware at the starting price of Rs 36,900.

iQoo 3 is good looking but heavy at 215 gm. It blends glass and metal quite seamlessly in its design. The phone has minimal bezels, which make the display look quite big despite a punch-hole selfie camera. The 6.4-inch full HD+ AMOLED display produces vibrant colours but has a refresh rate of 60Hz. Considering that 90Hz refresh rate is becoming the norm in this segment, it is a bit surprising for iQoo to miss out on it.

The highlight is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, which is currently the fastest Android chipset in the market. It also has 5G connectivity but that is of no use in India at this point. The processor — coupled with 12GB RAM — ensures that there are no lags or stutters. The overall functioning is really smooth.

For some, the custom-based user interface (UI) called iQoo UI may be a downer. However, if you have used a Vivo, then this might not be a cause of complain.

Like almost every other phone these days, the iQoo 3 also packs in a 48MP camera along with two 13MP lenses and a 2MP depth sensor. Images clicked using these lenses have a lot of detail and clarity. Colours are accurate with no saturation. The AI-detection system works really well and suggests which lens should be used to click images. Low-light photography, however, isn’t that great but is of acceptable quality. Selfies clicked from the 16MP camera are also reasonably good.

The large 4400mAH battery with quick charge means that even heavy users will have no complaints about using the phone for long hours without charging.

iQoo 3 is a phone that is great on hardware but could have been better on the software front. Except for the custom-based UI, the overall experience of iQoo 3 is really good for its price.
