Ramesh Nair, CEO, JLL India, knows how to stay productive while working from home. “There is a quote ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change’. This resonates with me,” says Nair.
And that’s just what he’s trying to do: Adapt. Working from home is not something new to Nair as he says it’s taking him back to 2001 when he worked out of home for nearly two years. “Even today, I wear a tie when I am sitting for client calls, a practice I carried forward from 2001.”

But there have been updates, such as tech. “I have shifted my Cisco DX80 from office to home, which enables me to connect with my leadership team via webex video conferencing. I have also increased my broadband bandwidth and arranged for a small printer as well as stationery. I sit next to a window. There is ample sunlight and I can see some trees,” he says.

    Perks of the job
Nair says the new setup is beneficial to his productivity due to lack of commute. “On a regular day, I spend at least two hours in traffic. Thankfully, that is not the case now. The stress of commuting would exhaust most of us and impact client-facing time.”

However, he says that finding a balance between personal and professional work can sometimes be hard to achieve while working from home. “On some days, I consciously sign off from work and spend time with my daughter and help her settle into her curriculum.”

And when he does manage to get a little down-time, Nair catches up on movies and reading. “I watched a few Malayalam films after a very long time. My social media intake has surely increased. [I have] Been reading articles and listening to podcasts on different platforms. This is also a good time to catch up with old friends,” he says.
