Asheesh Grewal, Founder and CEO of MyHealthBuddy, has been following a simple, yet efficient, fitness regime during the lockdown. With an aim to complete at least 10K steps, the health-tech boss focused a lot on home-based workouts for a minimum of 30 minutes.

    Counting calories
“My approach is pretty simple yet efficient - I walk at least 10k steps, daily. I realized in the very initial months of the lockdown that I needed to change my workout regime in accordance with the imposed restrictions. I to it, every day. Also, since socializing has reduced, there weren’t any ‘hard-to-say-no-to’ offerings. It really helped me keep my calories in check.”

    Workout-from-home
“Mostly, I have been doing home-based workouts that involve compound movements. These exercises engage multiple muscle groups at the same time. The ones that I swear by and have been doing ever since are squats, lunges, push-ups, burpees, kettlebell swings, and pull-ups. I’ve recently invested in a pair of 12kg dumbells and 16 kg kettlebells.”

    New habits
“Throughout my life, I have been a sports enthusiast - even as a kid I was brought up in the sports environment of MNSS Rai. However, as a grown-up confined in the hustle of corporate life, I could not manage to dedicate that same amount of time and energy to physical activities. I am grateful that this lockdown has brought a much required moment of pause in my life and given me a fresh perspective. As much as I am now engaging in sports and other physical activities, I have also adopted a couple of new hobbies. I have utilized the extra time to develop a reading habit and listen to audiobooks through apps like Audible.”

    Task manager
I have started maintaining a journal for my personal and business routines. I ensure to jot down my daily to-dos and habits such as reading and maintaining the target water intake and step-count. Journal keeping has helped me vastly in developing new habits and keeping my motivation high. As I sum up my day, I record the day’s updates and check on the completed tasks. This practice gives a lot of satisfaction and ends the day on a positive note; it works as a great source of dopamine for me.

    Mediation apps
“I stopped watching the news right after a few weeks from the start of the lockdown; there are other ways to be updated where you can be selective about your newsfeed. It certainly helped me to get over the stress and anxiety during the days of isolation. Also, other than reading and walking, I routinely meditate for 5-10 mins in the morning. Since I am a beginner, I used some third-party apps in the beginning, although now I do pretty well without them, too. Headspace is my newly found meditation buddy. I have also got hooked on to Audible and Apple Podcasts as I totally love this relaxing approach towards learning.”

    WFH look
“I firmly believe that self-grooming definitely plays a crucial role in our overall wellbeing and day-to-day productivity. When not properly groomed, we tend to get laid back and lack motivation; grooming keeps us in the zone. Although, I made sure to look upbeat even during the days of quarantine but did not really make any specific changes to my outlook.”
