Chinese tech giant OnePlus, on Thursday, entered the affordable TV segment with the launch of two new series, U Series and Y Series, in India.

The launch comes at a time of rising border tensions between India and China, nation-wide calls for boycott of Chinese products, and a ban on 59 Chinese apps by the Govt. However, the anti-China sentiment doesn't seem to have hampered the young brand's plans of introducing its price-sensitive TVs in the country.

The TVs with a starting price of Rs 12,999 were launched in a virtual event due to the coronavirus pandemic. This new price is a big change from the brand's first TV that was launched at a starting price of Rs 69,999 last year.

The new OnePlus Y series has two variants, TV 43Y1 & TV 32Y1 - i.e. 43 inches and 32 inches, priced at Rs 22,999 and Rs 12,999, respectively.

The bezel-less Y series TVs are powered by Android TV, and come with built-in Chromecast, and Google Assistant in English, Hindi and eight other Indian languages. The TVs support a high colour range of DCI-P3 93% featuring a 20% wider colour gamut.

For acoustics, the TVs sport 20W box speakers and Dolby Audio enhancement.

The TV 55U1 in the U series comes with a 4K UHD display with 93% colour gamut, and features a 6.9mm ultra slim, 55-inch panel. With a 95% Screen to Body Ratio and metal body, special attention has been paid to looks.

It is powered by Android TV and comes with support for OxygenPlay and OnePlus Connect. For superior audio quality, the TVs come equipped with 30 watts down-firing reflex 4-units speaker, with Dolby Atmos.

The TV 55U1 is priced at Rs 49,999.

The TVs that allow users to pair with up to five devices at the same time will go on sale from Sunday on Amazon.
