AgenciesThursday marked the 12th anniversary of the dastardly 26/11 attacks which shook the nation and changed the moral and social fabric of India forever. Ratan Tata, who is the chairman of the company which owns Hotel Taj Palace in Mumbai, the epicentre of the attacks, took to Instagram to salute the spirit of Mumbai, 12 years after the attack.
In his note, the industrialist highlighted how Mumbaikars came together during tough times, cast all of their differences aside, ‘to vanquish the terrorism and destruction that day’.
The 82-year-old began his note by talking about the destruction and havoc wreaked on the city 12 years ago which can never be forgotten. But for the billionaire philanthropist, what’s more memorable is how Mumbaikairs didn’t lose hope in the face of adversity.
While we honour the sacrifice of the brave, Tata wrote, we must applaud the unity and acts of kindness of Mumbaikars that will continue to shine for years to come.
The locations were - two luxury hotels - Oberoi-Trident Hotel and Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel, a Jewish cultural centre - Chabad House at Nariman Point, Leopold Cafe and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, the main railway station and the site of most of the killings, and Cama Hospital.
Nine terrorists were killed during the terror attack. Mohammed Ajmal Kasab was captured alive and executed in November 2012.
Rata Tata was the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 till his retirement on December 28, 2012. He is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons.
Being the Chairman of the company which owns Taj Hotel Palace, Tata had played an instrumental role in rebuilding the hotel after the attack. The 26/11 attacks and the courage shown by Mumbaikairs when tragedy struck, has always been close to Tata’s heart.
Every year on the anniversary of the attack, the billionaire philanthropist uses his social media accounts to send across a message of peace and unity. In 2019, the 82-year-old had written a heartfelt Instagram post where he remembered the time when he felt helpless as he looked at the carnage and loss of life during the attacks.

Twelve years ago, on this date, Mumbai witnessed a ghastly attack that lasted for four days. 166 people were killed and over 300 were injured as 10 terrorists from Pakistan attacked India's commercial capital - striking simultaneously at five major locations.

The 81-year-old also posted an Instagram story sharing a post from the Humans of Bombay’s Instagram account.
The post was written by a young girl, who at the age of 10 was shot at the CST station by 26/11 perpetrator Ajmal Kasab and testified in court against the terrorist.
