Ratan Tata’s Insta family hits a million, biz tycoon hails networking in the age of social media

Ratan Tata on Tuesday clocked a million followers on Instagram. And while the world of photo-sharing app didn’t think it was a matter of surprise, Mr. Tata certainly thought it was a big deal.
The Tata Group Chairman Emeritus posted a picture of himself comfortably perched on the floor. Thanking his million-plus #Instafam or Instagram family, he wrote that this “wonderful online family is not what I expected when I joined Instagram and I have you to thank for it.”

I do believe that the quality of connections you make in this age of the internet is far greater than any number. Tata, who joined Instagram on October 30 last year, has so far posted 17 pictures on his page. The pictures range from the octogenarian in the fast lane, getting behind the cockpit - he is a flying geek - to his love for dogs, and cars (he has one from the Indica launch), and lend diversity to his picture feed. And his followers include Sachin Tendulkar, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja, among others.

Networking in the age of technology has become much simpler with the Internet enabling access. And the 82-year, too, believes it as he wrote: “I do believe that the quality of connections you make in this age of the internet is far greater than any number. Being a part of your community and learning from you is truly exciting and makes me very happy and I hope our journey together continues.”

While this picture has garnered over 300K Likes at the time of writing this copy, it is his #ThrowbackThursday picture of a younger self in Los Angeles before his return to India that rules his feed, with 490,218 (and counting!) Likes.
