Redmi 8 with AI portrait mode face-unlock launched in India at Rs 8,999

Xiaomi, on Wednesday, unveiled its affordable smartphone Redmi 8 in India. The new device is a successor to Redmi 7 which was unveiled earlier in March this year. The new device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset and gets up to 4GB of RAM. The 4GB variant is priced at Rs 8,999; the 2GB variant will be available at Rs 7,999. The first 5 million units of the top specifications variant Redmi 8 will be available for Rs 7,999.

The device will be available in two memory configurations - 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB - and the devices will come with dedicated microSD card slot with expandable memory up to 512 GB.

Redmi 8 runs on a MIUI 10.0.1.3, based on the Android 9.0 Pie. The new device will be available in four colour variants - Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black, and Ruby Red.



In terms of display, the device comes with 6.21-inch HD+ TFT, 720 x 1520 pixels of resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio with a 320ppi pixel density. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.



The smartphone also sports a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor, a Dual-Phase Detect A and an 8 megapixel front camera. The camera also comes with HDR mode. The front camera boasts of a face-unlock feature with AI portrait mode. The device supports 33 scenes for AI detection and comes with Google Lens support which allows translation up to 104 languages. The smartphone is powered by 5,000mAh battery, a Type-C charger and 18W fast charging support.



The Redmi 8 will go on sale on Saturday on Flipkart, the Mi India website, Mi Home and Partner stores.
