Sushant Singh Rajput death: Rhea Chakraborty approaches SC against 'unfair media trial', claims she is being singled out

NEW DELHI: In a fresh development in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Rhea Chakraborty approached the Supreme Court on Monday against what she termed an 'unfair media trial'.

The model-turned-actress has requested the apex court to put a stop on the media coverage, which, she claims, has 'blown out of proportion' the investigation into the 'Kedarnath' star's death. According to TimesNow, Chakraborty - who was in a relationship with the actor at the time of his death - has filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court. In her plea, she has cited the suicide of two other actors in the last one month and how "there is not even a whisper about those particular cases". She claims that she is being 'unfairly targeted'.


Chakraborty, in her affidavit, recorded "no objection if the Supreme Court refers the matter to CBI by its order."

After acceding to a CBI probe into Rajput's June 14 suicidal death, Chakraborty said the case was heavily politicised by the Bihar government as the incident happened in the wake of Assembly elections. She said the FIR at Patna was purportedly registered because of interest shown by the Bihar Chief Minister.

"Incase of death of Rajput, CM of Bihar is reported to be responsible for registration of FIR in Patna," she alleged.

The development comes a couple of hours after the model-turned-actress was seen arriving at the Enforcement Directorate's Mumbai office for a second round of questioning on Monday. Her father, Indrajit Chakraborty, was also called for interrogation.

On July 31, the ED lodged a case under the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act (PMLA) for what it termed “suspicious transactions” referring to the financial transactions conducted by Rhea who was in a relationship with Rajput at the time of his death. The central intelligence agency sprung into action after Rajput’s father, KK Singh, filed an FIR in Patna, pointing to financial irregularities and alleging fraud against Rhea.

An earlier petition by Chakraborty is being heard by the top court, in which she has sought transfer of a police case filed against her by Rajput's father from Patna to Mumbai.
