NEW DELHI: Millions of Indians stayed home on Sunday in an overwhelming response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for a 'Janata Curfew' to curb the spread of coronavirus. Videos from all over the country of people stepping out to their balconies and terrace briefly at 5 pm to show gratitude towards healthcare and other essential service providers with sounds of bells, conches and claps, flooded all social media timelines.
However, a special gesture by the Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family caught T V Mohandas Pai's attention. The Aarin Capital Founder and Chairman, who is an active Twitter user with over 5,41,000 followers, took to the microblogging site to praise the 'great Indian industrialist'.

In a 40-second video uploaded by the former Infosys board member, Ambani, dressed in a white kurta-pyjama, had gathered with his family on the vast terrace of their Mumbai residence 'Antilia' to thank the COVID-19 warriors by ringing bells, beating small-sized gongs and clapping.

While the faces of the Ambani women were not clear, the RIL honcho's mother Kokilaben and his daughter-in-law Shloka were seen, enthusiastically ringing the bell.

On Sunday, the Director (Non-Executive & Non-Independent) at Havells India and Co-founder of non-profit organisation Akshaya Patra Foundation had posted his own picture, as he rang a bell to pay tribute to the country's health service providers, and PM Modi.

Meanwhile, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon, also shared a video of her ringing the bell during Janata Curfew. "My small applause for our saviours of the COVID19 outbreak," the caption read.

So far, there have been close to 500 cases and 9 deaths of coronavirus reported in the country.
