Will France's 6 pm deadline work for Indian professionals?

    Synopsis

We couldn’t help but find out what people here are usually up to at precisely this hour.

    ET Bureau
Labour unions and consulting companies in France recently decided that employees need not check work emails after 6 pm. We couldn’t help but find out what people here are usually up to at precisely this hour.
    Gayatri Ruia, Director, Palladium Hotel

All of us seem to be still at work at 6 pm and work related emails are flying around. I think a policy of this kind may work in a developed country with socialist governance like France but it’s a different story in capitalist India.

    Lizbeth Jose, Naaptol, GM-Media

I work from 9.30 am to 7 pm for five days a week. I’m usually done by this time, unless something unexpected crops up. Some times I have to stay till 8, but mostly, by 6, I’m wrapping up for the day.

Elise Losfelt, Winemaker, Moët & Chandon

My office is in France and my hours are 8 am-6 pm. I believe I’m efficient enough to finish work by the stipulated time. So at 6, I’m on my way home.

Riyaaz Amlani, CEO and MD, Impresario Entertainment and Hospitality

I’m in the hospitality business and it usually gets hectic only after 6 pm. My business is not about widgets or spreadsheets but about making people happy, and that’s what I’m doing at 6 pm every day. My day begins at 10 am and continues till midnight.

Gautam Mehrishi, Chef, Sun N Sand Hotel

I’m in the kitchen from 10 am to 4 pm and then from 7 pm till midnight. Luckily, I live close by so I can hop home and be back at work by 7 pm. At 6 pm, I’m usually helping my 10-year-old daughter with her academics or playing with my 5-year-old son.

Lira Goswami, Founding Partner, Associated Law Advisers

Most of my clients are from Europe or the US, so I’m usually in a conference call or busy sending emails at 6 pm. I don’t enjoy fixed hours. I usually begin my day at 10.30 am and wind up at around 8.30 pm.

    Sameera Reddy, Actress

In the glamour business, it’s work around the clock! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to not take calls or check emails after 6 pm. Most evenings I’m either stuck in some shoot or the other, else I hit the gym at this hour.

    Varuna D Jani, Jewellery designer

At 6 pm I am at my store. My day at work starts at 11 in the morning and ends at 8.30 pm and family time is only post that.
