    Manu Kumar Jain debunks misinformation, says all apps banned by Govt will be removed from its OS MIUI

    On Friday, the Global VP of Xiaomi and Xiaomi India MD, Manu Kumar Jain took to Twitter to issue a clarification about the apps that are in-built in Xiaomi’s operating system, MIUI. The CEO of the Chinese company announced that Xiaomi will be removing all the apps banned by the Indian government from its operating system.

    Jain clarified that Xiaomi ‘are[is] and will be 100% compliant with the Indian government’. He also detailed how these changes will affect Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco users in India.

    “Important news about #Xiaomi phones in India: 1) None of the blocked apps will be available. 2) MIUI Cleaner app is not using Clean Master app banned by Indian Govt. 3) 100% of Indian user data stays in India,” wrote Jain in one of his tweets.

    Jain also announced that Xiaomi is working on a new version of MIUI which will be rolled out soon. The Xiaomi India head also took a strong stand against misinformation and wrote, “Xiaomi reserves the right to take legal action against false accusations of its non-compliance with Government orders.”
    Xiaomi has claimed that the new version of MIUI will be rolling out to devices running on MIUI which includes both Xiaomi and Redmi users. Poco devices also run on a custom version of MIUI and are expected to get the same update.

    The company has also clarified that the MIUI has a Cleaner app which is not the same as the Clean Master app that has been blocked by the Indian government.

    The company, like all others in the banned list, has sent its responses to the Government’s 77 questions and is awaiting an individual hearing.

    The blocked apps include popular short-video platform TikTok, which is owned by Chinese startup Bytedance. Apps like Tencent’s WeChat, Alibaba Group’s UC Browser and UC News have also been banned by India.
