Next edition of India-China WMCC meet to be held soon

New Delhi: The next edition of India-China Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs led by the respective foreign ministries will be held soon to discuss in detail the decisions taken by the two countries on the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The meeting, to be held virtually, is expected to examine the outstanding issues in line with the decision taken at the levels of the national security adviser and foreign minister and their counterparts, and focus on restoring status quo ante along the LAC as it existed until April, according to people aware of the matter.

In early May, the Chinese side started amassing troops and armaments along the LoAC, violating the spirit of various bilateral agreements including the key pact of 1993.

The India-China disengagement process unlocked the space for high-level political and diplomatic engagements, starting with extensive discussions between the special representatives (SRs) of the two sides on Sunday. The two SRs agreed that the diplomatic and military officials of the two sides should continue their discussions, including under the framework of the WMCC, and implement the understandings reached in a timely manner to achieve the outcomes, according to a statement issued by the external affairs ministry.

The Indian side will continue to monitor and verify disengagement without being complacent, said the people cited earlier.
