Budget 2019: No need for a PAN, you can quote Aadhaar number for filing I-T return

    Synopsis

The finance minister announced the interchangeability of Aadhaar and PAN.

PAN, Aadhaar interchangeable for tax returns; 2% TDS on cash withdrawal over Rs 1 cr/yr proposed: FM Sitharaman
With an aim to simplify tax administration and bring greater transparency, FM has proposed inter-changeability of PAN and Aadhaar. "Those who don't have PAN, can file ITR by simply quoting Aadhaar number," Sitharaman noted.

Now, you can simply quote your Aadhaar card number to pay taxes without the need for a PAN card.

Earlier in February this year, SC had held that while Aadhaar would remain mandatory for filing of I-T returns and allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN), it would not be mandatory to link Aadhaar to bank accounts and telecom service providers cannot seek its linking for mobile connections.

The finance minister said that the reach of Aadhaar has reached to 120 crore Indians.
