    MoSPI committee on restructuring to suggest modifications in one month

    The eight-member committee is constituted to “recommend the operational level modifications to be made for giving effect to the restructuring”.

    NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday setup a committee to put into effect the creation of an overarching body, National Statistical Office (NSO), as part of the proposed restructuring of the country’s statistical system.

    The eight-member committee is constituted to “recommend the operational level modifications to be made for giving effect to the restructuring”, it said in a notification.

    On May 23, MoSPI approved the merger of the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) into NSO in order to streamline and strengthen the present nodal functions” and “to bring in more synergy by integrating its administrative functions within the ministry”. NSO will be chaired by chief statistician and MoSPI secretary.

    As per the terms of reference of the committee, it will give recommendations on the reorganisation of technical and administrative divisions, rationalisation of coordination activities, delegation of financial powers, reduction in the number of levels in the channel of submission and enhancement of the ministry’s efficiency. It will give its report within one month.
