Assam finance minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a team led by Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass has gone to Dhubri to interact with BJP workers who are sheltered in Assam after post-poll violence in West Bengal. Around 300 to 400 people from North Bengal have fled due to violence or anticipating violence on Tuesday. TMC came back to power in the results declared on Sunday.

Sarma tweeted, “the land of Rabindranath Tagore where he taught his fellow countrymen about the spirit of peace and brotherhood, the destiny of Bengal has taken such a painful turn. Today, a tyrant in @MamataOfficial has taken oath as the Chief Minister with the blood of innocents on her hands.

In another tweet, he stated, “Tragic exodus of people from Bengal continues! Over 450 people, who crossed over fearing ruthless oppression in Bengal, are put up in 2 shelters in Dhubri. They're are getting relief, & also being tested for #COVID19 @MamataOfficial Didi is fueling miseries of people. Shameful!”

Sarma said, “I had a talk with the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of police of Dhubri and we are providing food and shelter in Assam. Assam BJP president has gone to the area for further report.” When asked if the BJP leadership being engaged in West Bengal is delaying the government formation in Assam he said, “both are independent however at the same time people are paying their attention in West Bengal as we need to protect our workers.” When asked when government formation in Assam will take place, he said very soon.

Despite BJP and allies comfortably winning in Assam assembly polls, the party is yet to decide on a Chief ministership. BJP national President JP Nadda was in West Bengal on Tuesday after reports of post polls violence. Sarma said that the government formation process will take a couple of days in Assam. Sarma is a contender for the chief minister's post.

Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted, “Hundreds of people affected by the post-poll violence in Bengal have entered Assam. I have instructed both CS and DGP to render all necessary assistance to them including food and shelter.”

In another tweet, he said, “Deepest condolences to the victim's family members. Post poll violence perpetrated by TMC is a murder of democracy & against the ethos of our nation. We stand resolute with each & every @BJP4India karyakarta in Bengal in this sad time. These acts of extreme intolerance must stop”.

Himanta tweeted "As if to reassert might of an abhorring demonocracy led by @MamataOfficial, persecution of innocent by @AITCofficial continue. 21 people including an injured Dhiren Saha (45), facing threats of lives, arrived in Srirampur from Cooch Behar around 5 pm." He in another tweet stated, "The traumatized and hapless people from Falimari & Rampur villages in Bengal are accommodated temporarily at Assam's Srirampur MGR ME School, after COVID test. All necessary help being given. Such shame that Bengal makes such a brazen mockery of law, as disorder prevails.
