The crash occurred when the aircraft collided with the highway. All passengers on board the craft died, leaving no survivors.

According to the Logan County Office of Emergency Management, the helicopter crash occurred around 4:45 pm on 22nd June 2022. The accident site was near Kelly Hollow. On the other hand, the Federal Aviation Administration stated that the crash occurred near Route 17 in Logan County. The road would remain closed for the next 24 hours when the wreckage is cleared, and the investigation is conducted into the crash.
The Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority's chief of operations, Ray Bryant, said that the Bell UH-1B Huey helicopter belonged to the Vietnam era. Now, the aircraft is used for tourism. He also added that the tail number of the plane was N98F.

The doomed helicopter was featured in the 7th Annual Huey Reunion. This reunion was organized by the Marpat Aviation and was scheduled to be held this week between Tuesday and Sunday. According to the Marpat website, the reunion location was Logan Airport. The event allowed aviation enthusiasts to ride in a plane or fly one themselves by donating. The crash also occurred when people rode the helicopter participating in the charity event.

The website also mentioned that the N98F helicopter had featured in various films. Some notable names include 'The Rock', 'Die Hard' and 'Baywatch'.

While Federal Aviation Administration, National Highway Safety and the West Virginia State Police responded to the tragedy, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the same.

The Governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice, wrote on Twitter that he and his wife Cathy were praying for the crash victims.
