New Delhi: Students in Nepalese capital Kathmandu on Monday launched protests against the Chinese encroachment into the country’s territory. Massive protest march was held in front of the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu, political sources told ET from the Nepalese capital. More such protests are in pipeline. This is the second such public protest against the Chinese encroachment into the Humla area of Nepal.
Recently a civil society group in Nepal launched protests against China for allegedly constructing buildings in Nepal's territory in Humla district. Protests against China are growing in numbers across various world capitals over atrocities in Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet. The activists and protesters carried posters - "Return Nepal's land" and "stop Chinese expansionism". Pillar Number 11 that defined the Nepal-China boundary has been missing from Humla.
The ruling Nepal Communist Party & opposition Nepali Congress have been at loggerheads over China’s recent encroachment into the Nepalese territory. While Nepali Congress (NC) has launched protests over Beijing’s latest moves sections of the ruling party has defended China claiming that no such encroachment has happened. This was not the first time. Couple of months back Nepal's opposition party Nepali Congress had moved a motion in the lower house of Nepali Parliament on the Nepalese land encroached by China. But the pro-China Oli regime brushed aside the concerns.

In June, a Nepal government report said that China is using road construction in Tibet to occupy Nepali land and may establish border outposts in near future. Nepal's Survey Department of Agriculture Ministry had then claimed that China encroached on 10 places which comprises early 33 hectares of Nepalese land adding that it has also been diverting the flow of rivers to increase its territory.

Some NC MPs are planning to launch a fresh salvo after reports emerged China has constructed nine buildings on the Nepali territory. The development came to light during an inspection of the Lapcha-Limi region of Nepal's remote Humla region from August 30 to September 9 by the local District Officer. Chinese PLA and border police have occupied Nepalese Territory at Limi Lapcha area of Namkha gaupalika (rural municipality) of Humla district.
