Lucknow: A beaming Yogi Adityanath clapped and was even overcome with emotion once as he saw the Ayodhya verdict unfolding on television, with Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) senior leader Dinesh Ji sitting next to him on Saturday.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and other senior Sangh leaders Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Krishna Gopal and Dattatreya Hosabale called Adityanath to congratulate him, sources aware of the events at the CM's 5 Kalidas Marg House on Saturday told ET. Dinesh, VHP’s International General Secretary, who came down to 5, KD Marg told Adityanath that the Ram Temple was 'the fruit of labour' of the two generation of Gurus of the CM, Mahant Avaidyanath and Mahant Digvijay Nath of Gorakhnath Temple and it was fitting that the temple would be built when Adityanath was the CM.

"The CM was very happy and beaming. He kept clapping as the verdict’s details were flashing and was once so overcome with emotion that he excused himself briefly from the room", sources said. The CM also commented that the SC had upheld most of his own arguments on the issue.

Adityanath had been up till late the previous night monitoring matters and speaking individually to Divisional Commissioners and Additional DGPs across the state to review security preparations as the SC announced around 9 PM on Friday that the verdict would come on Saturday. The UP Chief Secretary and DGP had earlier got no such inkling from the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi during their meeting with him earlier on Friday. A senior UP official said the previous preparations done ensured that the government was not caught by surprise.

Officials in Adityanath’s core team told ET that the CM’s political position has been strengthened as 'the real disciple' of Lord Ram. "While Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav as CMs sat on translating official case documents to English between 2010 and 2017, Adityanath as the CM ensured this was done within 10 months. This ensured the case hearings were fast-tracked," one official said. Another official said Adityanath as CM went to Ayodhya 18 times. "In the last 27 years, Adityanath became the second BJP CM in UP to pay obeisance to Ram Lalla at Ayodhya. Yadav as CM but never went to see Ram Lalla. Since 1992, all big leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi maintained a distance from Ram Lalla", the official in the CM’s team said.
