Anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam tests positive for Covid-19 in Guwahati jail

GUWAHATI: Sharjeel Imam, one of the key organisers of the Shaheen bagh protests in New Delhi, has tested positive for COVID-19.

His brother Muzzammil Imam tweeted, “ As per the conversation between my brother Sharjeel Imam &his advocate, it has been informed to us that Sharjeel has been tested positive for Covid 19. He further informed about the unmanageable condition if the Guwahati Central jail where over 600 inmates (out of 1100) have tested positive and very few are being given proper medical facilities. Hundreds of positive patients are being forced to live inhuman condition inside the jail premises itself. Pray for his health and safety.”

Imam was slated to be taken to New Delhi but before the transfer, he and Delhi Police team were screened for Covid-19. While the police team tested negative, Imam tested positive.
