    Assam continues to be restive, protesters call for 12 hour bandh

    Police has launched massive operation in Tinsukia and Saidya to nab those behind the the killing.

    GUWAHATI: After a 12 hour Assam bandh, called by some organisations, protesting the killing of five people in Tinsukia district by suspected ULFA gunmen, Assam continued to be restive. Loca police picked up a linkman belonging to anti-talk faction of ULFA in connection with the killing.

    Police has launched massive operation in Tinsukia and Saidya to nab those behind the the killing. Police has blamed anti talk ULFA militants led by Paresh Baruah for the killing.

    Prasanta Sagar Changmai, Superintendent of police Sadiya confirmed that a linkman was detained.

    While the bandh on Saturday revoked total response in the Bengali dominated Barak valley, in Guwahati bandh hardly had any impact. In Upper Assam, Lower Assam and hill districts bandh has its impact in several pockets.

    Police arrested congress and BJP leaders in Barak valley for supporting the bandh.

    Two extremists were nabbed from Harinagar Bazaar in Cachar district during the 12-hour Barak Valley Bandh. According to Cachar SP Rakesh Roushan, the ultras were arrested around 11.30 am and seven AK-47 rifles, around 500 bullets and one 9mm pistol have been recovered from their possession.

    During the bandh there sporadic incidents of violence and vehicles plying on road was targeted. In Barpeta in Lower Assam, bandh supporters pelted stones on the police.
