Congress launches digital campaign 'Speak Up For Jobs'

The Congress launched a digital campaign, 'Speak Up For Jobs', on Thursday, blaming the Modi government’s "flawed" economic policy and implementation of lockdown in the wake of Covid-19 for the massive loss of jobs. Urging people, especially the youth, to join the campaign to force the Centre to address the issue of unemployment, the party reminded that the BJP had come to power with a promise of creating 20 million jobs every year.

The Congress’ official Twitter handle stated: “One devastating policy after another, BJP has snatched away the livelihoods of crores of Indians & pushed our youth into a bleak future…Join our #SpeakUpForJobs campaign & raise your voices against BJP’s misadventures.” Party leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The policies of Modi govt have caused the loss of crores of jobs and a historic fall in GDP. It has crushed the future of India’s youth. Let’s make the government listen to their voice. Join #SpeakUpForJobs.”

Congress’ chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said the Modi government, instead of creating 120 million new jobs during the past years, based on its promise of delivering 20 million new jobs every year, ended up “snatching away” 140 million jobs during its tenure since 2014. “The youth has now woken up and demands an answer,” he said.
