New Delhi: Congress leaders and party activists held “Raj Bhavan gherao” across states on Friday, extending their support to the agitating farmers and demanding repeal of the contentious farm laws. As part of the party’s ‘Speak up for Kisan Adhikar (farmers’ rights)’ programme, Congress workers held demonstrations and tried to march towards the official residences of the governors in the respective states.
Participating in the programme in Delhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed the pressure of the public agitation would be such that the government would finally be forced to withdraw the three laws.

“The Modi government will have to withdraw the farm laws. The Congress will not relent till it is done. These laws are meant not to help the farmers but to finish them off,” he said.

He also reminded that the first Modi government was forced to withdraw the proposed Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill following such protests. He accused the Centre of prolonging the negotiations with the farmers’ representatives in order to tire out the agitators.
