NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of former Medical Council of India president Ketan Desai and three others in an alleged graft case.
Additional Sessions Judge OP Saini sent Desai, JP Singh, Kanwaljit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh to jail till May 28.

Desai was arrested on April 22 by CBI along with three others for allegedly accepting bribe to give permission to a Punjab-based medical college to recruit a fresh batch of students without having the requisite infrastructure.

The court's order came on CBI's plea that "the investigation of the case is not yet complete and hence, all the four accused persons may be sent to further judicial custody for fourteen days."

Meanwhile, the court, which had earlier dismissed the bail plea of Desai, deferred the hearing on the bail applications of Kanwaljit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh for May 28.

Earlier, the had court allowed the CBI to interrogate Desai and three others in view of their alleged non- cooperation in the ongoing probe into the case.

Desai, alleged middleman JP Singh and doctors Sukhwinder Singh and Kanwaljit Singh of Patiala-based Gyan Sagar Medical College have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act dealing with inducing a public servant to accept bribe, criminal misconduct and payment of money.

Based on contents of intercepted telephonic calls made among the accused, CBI had laid a trap outside the south Delhi residence of JP Singh, which led to his arrest and that of Kanwaljit.
