Government panel asks suggestions from stakeholders on clause 6 on Assam Accord

GUWAHATI: Centre's high-level committee on Assam Accord has taken out a public notice asking stakeholders to give their comments, suggestions, views on the implementation of clause 6 before September 20.
The notice stated, “It is for the information of members of the public that the Ministry of Home Affairs Government of India vide notification No 11012/04/2019-NAVI dated 15 July, 2019 has notified a High Level Committee in respect of Clause 6 of Assam Accord to be headed by Justice B K Sharma, former Judge, Gauhati High Court."

Clause 6 of Assam accord relates to Constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards as may be appropriate, shall be provided to protect, preserve, promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.

The notice stated, “The High Level Committee requests all stakeholders, social organizations, individuals, etc to give their views comments, suggestions on measures to be taken as regards the Reservation of seats in Parliament Assam Legislative Assembly and Local bodies for the indigenous tribal, indigenous Assamese and other indigenous people of Assam."

Besides protection of Assamese and other indigenous languages of Assam, Reservation in employment under the Government of Assam, Central Government, semi central government, central PSUs and private sector in Assam, any other measures for protection reservation and promotion of cultural, linguistic identity and heritage of the indigenous tribes, indigenous Assamese and other indigenous people of Assam, protection of land rights of indigenous tribal, indigenous Assamese and other indigenous people of Assam.

In the notice the High Level Committee requests all stakeholders, social organizations, individuals to give their valuable comments suggestions, views.

Such organizations, stakeholders, individuals etc who desire to be heard in person may indicate their willingness to do so along with their submissions

Already the high level committee had couple of round of meeting.
