    Government releases instructions for senior citizens

    Synopsis

    The ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment issued instructions on March 17 to all NGOs , Regional Resource Training Centres, lntegrated Rehabilitation Centres and Old age homes emphasising that the elderly are more susceptible to virus attacks. It has listed out ‘precautionary steps’ to be undertaken immediately.

    Senior Citizens
    As per the instructions, all implementing agencies have been asked to ensure that senior Citizens and persons suffering from some medical conditions are immediately provided medical attention.
    With senior citizens having been clearly identified as the most vulnerable to the Coronavirus, the Centre has stepped in with special instructions specific to the elderly.

    The ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment issued instructions on March 17 to all NGOs , Regional Resource Training Centres, lntegrated Rehabilitation Centres and Old age homes emphasising that the elderly are more susceptible to virus attacks. It has listed out ‘precautionary steps’ to be undertaken immediately.

    As per the instructions, all implementing agencies have been asked to ensure that senior Citizens and persons suffering from some medical conditions are immediately provided medical attention. The NGOs have been tasked with taking regular temperature check of all inmates and check for respiratory symptoms and immediately call the Doctor if such persons report symptoms of fever, difficulty in breathing and coughing.

    It has also been instructed that NGOs must ensure that such people maintain proper personal hygiene and physical distancing.

    NGOs are also to discourage, as far as possible, entry of any visitors in the premises/complex, mandatorily place hand sanitizers at the entry of premises and ensure proper cleaning and frequent sanitization of the premises particularly the frequently touched surfaces. They are also to ensure regular supply of hand sanitizers, soap and running water in the washrooms.

    All inmates are also to be apprised of the instructions, informed to avoid shaking hands and hugging as a matter of greeting.
