    India should not weaken its fight against coronavirus: Narendra Modi

    Health Ministry's data showed that the number of new coronavirus infections dropped below 50,000 for the first time in nearly three months in India on Tuesday even as the country’s Covid-19 tally inched close to 7.6 million.

    Addressing the nation ahead of the upcoming festive season, Prime Minister Narendra appealed to remain vigilant and strengthen the fight to counter Covid-19 . "We must keep in mind that lockdown may have ended but virus is still here," reminded the Prime Minister.
    Reiterating government's promise, he said, Centre is preparing to make sure that Covid-19 vaccine reaches every person.

    From the Janata curfew against Corona till today all of us (Indians )have come a long way. Over time, economic activity also seems to be gradually increasing, emphasised Modi.

    “Many people have stopped taking precautions now. This is not right. If you are careless, walking out without a mask, then you are putting yourself, your family, your family’s children, the elderly in as much trouble,” he added.

    This is Modi's seventh address to the nation since he announced a strict lockdown in March-end to check the spread of the coronavirus. Since June, the nation has been exiting the restrictions in phases in order to reopen the economy.

    On Monday, while addressing the inaugural function of Grand Challenges Annual Meeting 2020, the PM said India is currently seeing a decline in the number of Covid-19 cases per day and the growth rate of cases because it was one of the first countries to adopt a lockdown. He also said that India has one of the highest recovery rates of 88%.

    The worst is over
    A government-appointed panel said on Sunday, the country is past the coronavirus peak, pointing to the tapering number of cases over last two weeks. From a peak of 97,000-plus cases, India is now logging around 60,000-plus cases a day.
