    Lockdown 5.0: Here's what it will look like in each state

    Synopsis

    While the central government has relaxed the lockdown across the country, containment zones have had theirs extended till June 30, however, some states are going all out in their restrictions.

    Just after the Centre released guidelines for reopening the country after almost 70 days of a stringent nation-wide lockdown, several states across the country have decided to extend lockdowns within their borders to help in the battle against COVID-19.

    While the central government has relaxed the lockdown across the country, containment zones have had theirs extended till June 30, however, some states are going all out in their restrictions.

    Nationwide rules:
    According to the Ministry of Home Affairs' guidelines for Unlock 1, in places not designated as containment zones, the following relaxations will happen in phases:

    • Phase 1: Initially, people will be allowed to go out of their houses, but with face masks and social distancing mandatory.
    • Phase 2: Schools, colleges and other educational institutions will open.
    • Phase 3: Metro services, international travel and places of entertainment will open.

    Here's what some states are planning:

    Maharashtra (Extended till June 30):
    The state has set out a phased action plan titled 'Mission Begin Again', that has a phased reopening plan as follows:
    • Phase 1: Outdoor physical activity to be allowed from June 3 onwards, as well as self-employed services including plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
    • Phase 2: All markets, shops will be allowed to open on an odd-even basis.
    • Phase 3: Private offices can reopen with up to 10 per cent strength.
    • Production houses can shoot for films, serials, with prior permission from local authorities.

    Delhi
    • All shops in markets have been opened.
    • Delhi has sealed its borders for one week. People engaged in essential services are allowed.
    • Delhi govt will permit all relaxations allowed by Centre.
    • Salons will reopen but spas to remain closed.

    West Bengal (Extended till June 15):

    • Lockdown to be extended only in containment zones.
    • Government office to function with 70% workforce, on a rotational basis.
    • Intra state movement of government and private buses will resume, masks and gloves mandatory for passengers.
    • The state is allowing production for TV and cinema to resume - with a 35 person cap on unit size - from June 1.
    • Places of worship to open from June 1, not more than 10 people allowed to gather.
    • Shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels can reopen from June 8.
    Uttar Pradesh (No extension, rules modified):
    • People from containment areas in Delhi are not allowed inside Noida / Ghaziabad.
    • Markets will remain open from 9 am to 9 pm, while super markets are being allowed to open with conditions of social distancing and other precautionary measure.
    • Taxis, cab services and auto rickshaws will be allowed to ply. Roadways buses will be allowed to ply, but standing in buses won’t be allowed. Face masks and gloves mandatory for all drivers, conductors.
    Telangana (Extended till June 30):
    • Shops allowed to remain open till 8 PM
    • Night curfew to be in force daily from 9 PM to 5 AM.
    Punjab (Extended till June 30):
    All restrictions to be in line with Centre's guidelines.

    Madhya Pradesh (Extended till June 15):
    The state is mulling reopening educational institutions from June 13, while all other restrictions remain the same.

    Tamil Nadu (Extended till June 30):
    • Public transport will resume with reduced services from June 1, but buses will not be operated in Chennai, Kancheepurm, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet districts
    • The state is also considering allowing more employees at workplaces.
    • Shooting for TV serials allowed to resume from May 31.
    Meghalaya (Extended till June 6):
    • Shopping complexes, salons, spas, parlours, cinema theatres, gymnasiums and swimming pools prohibited from functioning
    • Hotels, other than those being used as quarantine facilities, have been disallowed from opening till June 6.
    • Public transport including taxis and buses already operating within districts; no word yet on inter-district and inter-state movement of vehicles, barring those with passes.
    Rajasthan (Extended till June 30):
    • Private and commercial transport vehicles allowed to carry passengers up to their full capacity.
    • Interstate and intrastate operation of buses allowed; restricted to permitted routes and outside containment zones.
    • Government and private sector organsiations to function at full strength
    • Religious places, hotels and malls remain closed.
    Karnataka (Extended till June 30):
    Religious places, shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels can reopen from June 8.

    Jammu & Kashmir (Extended till June 8):
    All restrictions to be in line with Centre's guidelines.
