Srinagar: The news of appointment of Manoj Sinha as J&K’s lieutenant governor failed to enthuse political parties of the Union Territory who remained sceptical.

Sinha’s appointment, considered as a move meant to resume the political process in J&K, has been termed by UT’s political parties as “another Delhi man on Delhi’s mission”. They said that it won’t make any difference on the ground.

Sinha will replace GC Murmu, who resigned late Wednesday night after remaining lieutenant governor for nine months.

“These are Delhi’s men on Delhi’s mission. There is very little for us to say,” said People’s Democratic Party spokesperson Suhail Bukhari. He alelged “the assignment of all these men are to further anti-Muslim agenda of RSS.

Their mission is to disenfranchise and disempower the people of J&K, especially Muslims, and enforce a demographic change”.

Politicians in Kashmir have also started digging deep into social media to watch videos of Sinha and understand him.

“Seeing his past statements against the Muslims, we don’t see much hope in him. Right now, New Delhi isn’t interested in any political process, so LG’s appointment would hardly matter,” said National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar. He said that the situation on the ground was such that the political parties weren’t allowed to meet and strategise for any future course of action.

“This is just an administrative change,” he said.

The appointment of Sinha as LG would certainly test his political and administrative acumen as the “abrogation of J&K’s special status has increased the gap between the Kashmir Valley and the Centre,” another leader claimed.

“We are not sure how much he understands Kashmir and by the time he understands, he will be removed,” said People’s Conference spokesperson Adnan Ashraf, lamenting that Sinha’s public statements against Muslims in the past did not encourage us in any way to feel positive about his appointment.

“Actually, it doesn’t make any difference on the ground right now,” he said.
