Who would have thought a school trip to the Indian Meteorological Department in Delhi would ignite curiosity and interest in a 9th class student. Three years later, 17 year old Navdeep Dahiya still remembers his trip to Mausam Bhawan and is now attempting to ensure that his weather forecast helps the common man, particularly farmers.

A 12th class student from DAV Rohtak, Dahiya is an active weather blogger for the northern region with his two year old ‘Live weather of India’ web page on Facebook attracting over 500 people a day. “My followers from Delhi-NCR and northern India know me as the Rohtak weatherman.

It is a very satisfying experience when you can go hyper local in disseminating rainfall data for a city or guide farmers when to plant or harvest crops,” he says.

Dahiya is now enhancing his skills in agro-meteorology which he thinks will help to reach out to more farmers.

With a manual weather station at his home including 2 digital and 1 manual thermometer, rain gauge and a handmade wind wane, following IMD parameters Dahiya calculates his own data and now aims to buy an Automatic Weather Station by next year.
