Guwahati: While Mizoram registered its first COVID-19 death, Meghalaya government has decided to allow people, who are coming to the state for business purposes, to undergo COVID-19 testing once in ten days.

A 62-years-old man was died on Wednesday due to Covid-19 in Mizoram. A tweet of Mizoram’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations said: “The first Covid-19 related mortality in Mizoram comes as a huge shock to the entire state. He was 62-years-old with existing co-morbidities and was under treatment at ZMC for more than 10 days.”

Around 40 organizations from Assam have threatened to block all routes going into Garo Hills in Meghalaya from October 29 after the stalemate in discussions over allowing entry to Assam traders and businessmen.

Meghalaya’s deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong said, “All asymptomatic persons going out of Meghalaya for a short duration of 5 (five) days or less shall, on return, be exempted from quarantine if tested RAT negative at entry. They shall provide a valid travel document in the form of an air/rail ticket or taxi voucher or any other evidence validating such travel. If tested positive, SOP for home or institutional isolation should be followed. According to the new guidelines, “All entrants with a negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report and not having any symptoms will be exempted from quarantine and can proceed with their daily activities normally.”

All entrants tested by RT-PCR at the entry point should go into home quarantine or paid quarantine till the test results are declared. The test results are usually available within 48 hours. If tested negative, which shall be communicated through an SMS or can be checked online, such individuals can carry on with their daily activities or work normally. If tested positive, SOP for home or institutional isolation should be followed,” the guideline said.
