NEW DELHI: India’s surgical strikes in Pakistan trended bigger in absolute numbers on twitter than the Hillary Clinton-Donald Trump debate held a day earlier, with maximum tweets emerging from US, Europe and west Asia, besides India, according to a BJP analysis.
The hashtag used by BJP President Amit Shah and ministers on September 29 to congratulate the Army for the surgical strikes in Pakistan, #ModiPunishesPak, outperformed other India trends of the past and even some global trends.

That include #debatenight and #Trump for first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on September 28 (IST) and the launch of the schedule of the new album of the South Korean brand GOT7 on September 16.

As per BJP’s analysis, nearly 2.56 lakh tweets used the #ModiPunishes-Pak hashtag on September 29, after DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh announced the surgical strikes.

The same are said to have created nearly 79.4 crore ‘impressions’ world-wide, the number of times the tweets with the hashtag were seen.

At its peak, nearly 250 tweets with the hashtag were done per second, higher than any trends in the past. Apart from Shah, M Venkaiah Naidu, Kiren Rijiju, Kalraj Mishra and several otherministers usedthe# ModiPunishes-Pak hashtag to tweet on the strike.

Maximum tweets with the hashtag outside India were generated from US, Europe and west Asia. “This shows that the issue reverberated not just in India but across the world.

PM Modi had given assurance in an earlier tweet on the day of the Uri attack that those behind it will not go unpunished,” a senior party leader said.
