    My companies ceased manufacturing, yet not sending employees home: Vijay Mallya

    MUMBAI: Beleaguered liquor baron, Vijay Mallya has tweeted that it is important to stay safe and maintain social distancing which can effectively be achieved by staying home and enjoying home time with family and pets. "I am doing the same. We all have a sense of bravado but it’s not worth challenging an unknown enemy which isn’t Pulwama or Kargil. Indian Government has done what was unthinkable in locking down the entire Country. We respect that. All my Companies have effectively ceased operations. All manufacturing is closed as well. Yet we are not sending employees home and paying the idle cost. Government has to help" he tweeted.

    The UK High Court is hearing an appeal filed by Mallya is expected to return to court on Tuesday against being extradited to India to face fraud and money laundering charges amounting to Rs 9,000 crores. The Royal Courts of Justice in London will hear the appeal against a magistrates' court extradition order, signed off by former UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid in February last year.

    Vijay Mallya remains on bail since his arrest on an extradition warrant in April 2017.
