Navratri events should not be allowed: Gujarat BJP Chief

Gandhinagar: Gujarat BJP president CR Patil said on Monday that Navratri celebrations should not be permitted in the state amid the pandemic. He was interacting with the media virtually on the farm bills passed by the Rajya Sabha a day earlier. On being asked about Navratri celebrations, he said that while the government was consulting experts including senior doctors to come to a decision, he personally felt that the celebrations should not be permitted given the pandemic situation.

After being appointed as the president of Gujarat BJP, Patil had toured across Saurashtra for four days from August 18 and North Gujarat for three days from September 2 with massive fanfare and participation of thousands of people. He had visited all the important temples of the region and his “rallies” raised major concerns over open flouting of the social distancing norms. Patil tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a private hospital in Gandhinagar, and was later discharged after he tested negative. Meanwhile, Gujarat health minister Nitin Patel said in the assembly that no one but God only knew what would happen with regard to Corona over time.
