    No case of coronavirus in Assam: Health Minister

    Panchayat and the rural development and education departments have been advised for IEC activities and in this regard, 73 gram Sabha meetings have been held in bordering districts so far.

    GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there are no cases of Coronavirus infection in Assam. In a written reply to a question in state assembly, Sarma said, “A total of 55 suspected persons who came from China were observed from January 15. Out of 55 persons, 46 have completed the observation period. The remaining are under observation in home quarantined for the incubation period. Till now two persons have been admitted at the isolation ward of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital with mild symptoms. The samples have been collected and tested and the result was found to be negative.

    He added, “Government of Assam is undertaking all necessary precautions and preparations to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Assam and to restrict the epidemic in case of positive cases in line with advisories issued by the Government of India and in consultation with the local offices of World Health organisation, UNICEF and other international organisations.

    He added that the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts, Principals of Government Medical Colleges and Joint Director of health services of all the districts are being sensitised on the action that has to be taken and also spread awareness among people. Panchayat and the rural development and education departments have been advised for IEC activities and in this regard, 73 gram Sabha meetings have been held in bordering districts so far.

    The minister said that a medical team has been deployed to all airports of Assam and ambulances are on standby. The assessment of the triple layer mask, personal protection equipment N95 mask has been done. Announcements for awareness are being made at the airport among the passengers at regular intervals about the COVID-19 infection.
