New Delhi: The Ram Janmabhoomi Ramalaya Nyas, a trust involved in the temple movement, has written to PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah saying it should be designated as the trust to build the temple in Ayodhya.
It has argued that the Vishva Hindu Parishad’s Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas is ineligible for the project and that there is no need to set up a new trust as directed by the Supreme Court.

The Ramalaya Nyas is headed by Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati and Swami Avimukteshwaranand is its secretary. It said in the letter that it was formed in 1994 after the enactment of the Ayodhya Act, 1993, which stipulated that a trust be formed in the future for the construction of the temple. Since the VHP’s Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas was formed in 1985, before the enactment of the Act, it is ineligible for building the temple, said the Ramalaya Nyas.

“How can the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas prepare a design for the temple even before the land was given? Their temple design is not grand enough. The way has now been paved for all of 67 acres to be devoted to a temple comp l e x , ” S w a m i Av i m u k t e s h w -aranand told ET. “We want the Ram temple complex to be the biggest and tallest in the world at over 1,000-feet high — we are studying models like Cambodia’s Angkor Wat temple and are in touch with a famous sculptor in Chennai.” He said a 4D design of the temple would be unveiled in Ayodhya soon by Ramalaya Nyas. The VHP has proposed a 128-feet high temple.

A government official, however, told ET that the Ramalaya Nyas’ case was not expected to be accepted and that a new trust would be set up through a gazette notification soon.

“Representatives from various organisations involved in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement — the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, VHP, Digambar Akhara, Nirmohi Akhara, Nirwaini Akhara and Ramalaya Nyas could be represented in the new trust. All this is under consideration,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
