Padma Shri awardee Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa dies of cardiac arrest after testing positive for coronavirus

Former Hazoori Raagi of the Golden Temple and Padma Shri awardee, Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa, died in the wee hours of Thursday at a Amritsar hospital.
He tested positive for coronavirus On Wednesday and died of a cardiac arrest.

“He tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. He may have caught the infection during his trip to Chandigarh. He died of sudden cardiac arrest on Thursday,” a Hindustan Times report quoted Amritsar civil surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal as saying..

According to an IANS report, he was hospitalised on March 31 with complications of breathlessness and dizziness.

On March 29, tests were carried out in Shri Guru Ramdas Research Institute of Medical Sciences after which he was referred to the Guru Nanak Hospital for advanced diagnosis.

The local police have sealed the nearby residences of Nirmal Singh in Amritsar to contain the spread of the virus.

Nirmal Singh was honoured with Padma Shri in 2009.
