    Ready to give CRPF escort for trucks if Assam reciprocates, says Mizoram

    Mizoram home secretary Lalbiaksangi has said that the state will deploy CRPF to escort stranded vehicles from Mizoram to the Assam border, provided Assam reciprocates.

    Guwahati: Mizoram home secretary Lalbiaksangi has said that the state will deploy CRPF to escort stranded vehicles from Mizoram to the Assam border, provided Assam reciprocates. The secretary forwarded a joint resolution of the Silchar Truck Drivers’ Association and Zoram Drivers’ Union to the Union joint secretary for northeast.

    The drivers’ bodies requested both state governments to provide CRPF escort for vehicles between Assam and Mizoram. Two companies of central paramilitary forces which arrived on Thursday have been deployed along the interstate border which has remained tense after riots broke out last month.

    Lailapur, which falls under Assam’s Dholai assembly seat, has been on the boil after 20 shops and houses were burnt down by Mizo miscreants on October 9. Several people were injured in clashes which happened in the wake of the incident. Later a school was demolished in a blast at Lailapur recently.
