The petitioners, who had sought an independent enquiry into the alleged encounter in which the gangster was killed in UP, had alleged that some of the panel members had already taken a public stand on the encounter and, hence, could not be dubbed as impartial.
The CJI, however, said the enquiry should go on and there ought to be no apprehension on any score with a former SC judge at the helm of the probe. Retired SC judge BS Chauhan heads the panel.
In another case, the CJI refused to grant bail to a man who had at least 8 criminal cases against him, citing developments in the Dubey case.
