New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to change the composition of a panel set up to probe the killing of gangster Vikas Dubey in an alleged encounter. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, rejected the allegations made against some police officers on the court-created probe panel.
The petitioners, who had sought an independent enquiry into the alleged encounter in which the gangster was killed in UP, had alleged that some of the panel members had already taken a public stand on the encounter and, hence, could not be dubbed as impartial.

The CJI, however, said the enquiry should go on and there ought to be no apprehension on any score with a former SC judge at the helm of the probe. Retired SC judge BS Chauhan heads the panel.

In another case, the CJI refused to grant bail to a man who had at least 8 criminal cases against him, citing developments in the Dubey case.
